Zara Kand was born Feb. 26, 1987 in London, England. With parents being artists and musicians she experienced a childhood enriched with a creative environment that encouraged her to always express herself. After living in various parts of Europe and the East Coast, she moved to Los Angeles in 2003 and it has been home to her ever since. In this time, having focused her talents on oil painting, she has developed a reputation for her unique style and actively participates in arts events and exhibitions primarily in the Los Angeles area, including venues such as Hive Gallery, Long Beach Public Library, Cannibal Flower, and live painting at La Luz De Jesus.
Zara loves translating emotions onto canvas, especially the ones overlooked that reside in dark corners. She feels the closer we can get to confronting the vast world within ourselves, the more power we may possess towards individual assertion amongst a society continually trying to control and deface. Using the elements of the cosmic plain, dreams, and nature as the bed from which her creations wake, she portrays melancholic yet curious faces, reaching hands, skin bursting open with the demons of fear and desire-these being the transporters to an awareness beyond our immediate surroundings.
